The Lollies 2018 - Winner of the Best Laugh Out Loud Picture Book
There are jokes galore in Elys Dolan’s brilliant new picture book and they’ll make readers of all ages crack up! Mr Bunny is a tough boss: while he’s in his office keeping a close eye on the profits, his chicken employees are hard at work making chocolate, then eating it and laying chocolate eggs! When he insists on upping production even further, the chickens decide un oeuf is un oeuf, lay down their tools and come out on strike, proclaiming power to the poultry, and demanding better working conditions. Fortunately Mr Bunny realises he needs the workers on his side, and industrial relations are rapidly restored. Bursting with verbal and visual gags, this is a wildly original and rewarding picture book; in fact I’d go so far as to say it is egg-cellent.
Head Lollies Judge Michael Rosen said: “It’s fantastic to see the huge engagement from schools and children for the Lollies. The books that children have chosen are all worthy winners but even more importantly, it’s provided a focus for children to read for pleasure and discover the joy that funny books can bring.”
Rachel Partridge, Group Marketing Director, Scholastic UK said: “We’re delighted to see the huge engagement from schools and children for the Lollies. We made the decision to live stream the ceremony from a school this year after so many teachers told us that their pupils would love to attend the awards. This way we are ensuring that as many children as possible can join in and share in a fabulous moment to celebrate the best children’s books and the authors and illustrators who create them.”
Go behind the scenes of Mr Bunny's chocolate factory! An irresistible look at the workings of Mr Bunny's chocolate factory! Packed with cross-over humour to amuse kids and big kids too with artwork full of details for poring over time and time again.
Still a new kid on the block, Elys Dolan has already been shortlisted for The Roald Dahl Funny Prize and the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, and nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal. The perfect picture book for Easter, but also with a great all-year round appeal.
Praise for Nuts in Space:
Dolan's illustrations are a dippy delight and the jokes in the many speech bubbles funny enough to stand the test of many readings. A classic in the cracking. Children's Book of the Week - The Times
Praise for Weasels:
Dolan's hysterical picture book follows the weasels at work on the day they plan to seize global power but unexpected obstacles keep thwarting their efforts, from faulty machinery to over-zealous health and safety inspectors Every page is a treasure trove of hilarity and it will take several reads to pick up on all the clever little details which Dolan has scattered about the place. Its also fun to follow the progress of individual weasels as the story unfolds keep an eye out for the one with the huge drill, who happens to be my personal favourite. Picture Book of the Month - The Independent
