A little girl asks her neighbour if he wants to see a penguin, and ‘You betcha!’ comes the reply. She’s confident that, as a penguin expert, it will be easy to track one down. But while the creatures she points out have penguin features – e.g. they’re black and white, they can swim, they have feet, they can’t fly – none of them are actually penguins as her new friend points out.
Never mind, they’ve had fun. As they head for home, readers will spot the bemused penguin in the doorway of the house behind them, and will have noticed on each page a penguin busy in the background (I particularly like the one driving a bus). It’s funny and silly, but actually really informative on identifying animals.

Wanna See A Penguin? Synopsis
Join two friends on a wild penguin chase around the city. Our self-described penguin 'expert' finds black-and-white animals at every turn. But are any of them really penguins - and can you spot the penguin hiding on every page?
Written in Simon Philip's distinctively witty voice, this is brilliantly funny storytelling that plays on the pantomime convention of 'it's behind you'. Readers will love guessing what each new animal is from the glimpse given in the artwork, before turning the page to find out. There are fun facts about all the animals in a fact file at the end of the book.
Hilarious new picture book from the author of the award-winning You Must Bring A Hat.
Brilliantly comedic illustrations from Ian Smith full of humour and expression.
