Feast of Ashes

LoveReading4Kids Says

Feast of Ashes, Victoria Williamson’s first novel for older readers, presents a stimulating story set in a dystopian wasteland in which the earth’s eco-systems have been obliterated. Shot-through with the impulse to survive, the palpable bravery of its young protagonists, and the urgent need to nourish and protect the environment, Feast of Ashes is a multi- layered novel that kicks off a new series in impressive style.

Having been raised in the safe haven of Eden Five in the colossal greenhouse of a colossal corporation, 16-year-old Adina has always felt safe. But then: “I’ll never forget the date September the third, 2123. How could I? That was the day I killed fourteen thousand seven hundred and fifty-six people.” So shares Adina right at the arresting start of this story.

In the aftermath of making an error that wrecks Eden Five, she and her fellow survivors are forced out into the wastelands beyond the dome of the greenhouse.

As they battle to find Sanctuary in a pulse-quickening race against time, shocking truths are discovered — they’re not alone as they’d expected, and the corporation isn’t as they’d thought.

Taking in themes of sustainability, corporate greed, and how African resources are appropriated, and driven by authentically crafted characters, Feast of Ashes is a thrilling thought-provoker.
