It is the power of stories that has attracted a visitor to Mama and Papa Bird’s cosy nest. At the end of the story, they discover a fifth chick who tells them “That was a really good story”. They all settle down to sleep, but when it gets really dark ‘PING’ Otto’s eyes open wide.
So, Papa Bird offers another story, and another, and another. But that does not do the trick, nor does the familiar family strategies of a drink, lullabies and big cuddles. But in the morning, he is fast asleep.
Children, of course, will have worked out that Otto is an Owl and will find this all very funny as it happens night after night. The exhausted adults think they should just leave him to it, but Otto is wide awake and can see all sorts of things in the darkness, including eventually, owls! This prompts a series of loud hoots which wake the whole forest and catches the attention of the frankly blasé Mr and Mrs Owl, who admit that it sounds just like their Otto.
“Thank you for entertaining him” they say. “Otto can’t resist a good book!”
Neither will your readers be able to resist this very good book indeed. It would also be a lovely story to share when studying nocturnal animals.
Otto will be a little owl just as popular as Percy from The Owl Babies.
