In Pizza and Taco: Super Awesome Comic, Pizza and Taco come up with a brilliant plan to create their own comic book. It’s a great plan, and what I enjoy is how they decide who is the better illustrator and who is the better storyteller, something that children will enjoy discussing with older readers as they fly through this hilarious tale.
I loved how they couldn’t decide between a superhero or fantasy-based comic so decided to mash the two genres together. What they create are hilarious, ‘so bad they’re good’ looking drawings that will have readers howling with laughter.
What readers will also find relatable (and hilarious) is how both Pizza and Taco try to one-up each other when they come up with their characters, which are based on them. For instance, Pizza gives Taco “Super Farts” and names his own weakness as “Modesty”.
This leads to the duo having creative differences which nearly foil the entire plan to create a cool looking comic.
Pizza and Taco are fun, act like real kids (even though they are, of course, food items) and create genuinely funny interactions. I can picture these comics being read aloud using tons of funny voices and actions to bring the story to life.
What’s even better is that readers also get to read Pizza and Taco’s comic at the end of the story, bringing it all together. It will generate conversations about creativity and teamwork and will undoubtedly inspire young readers to want to create their own comics!
