Buck & Ears Pirate Detectives: Revenge of the Ghost Ship

LoveReading4Kids Says

Join pirate detectives Buck and Ears as they solve a particularly tricky mystery in this comic, inventive, thoroughly enjoyable adventure.

The crew of the Agathy Fishty II (named after first mate Ears’ favourite mystery writer) are on the look out for a new case to solve when they literally bump into one: in a rowing boat, is an enormous alligator in a tailored purple suit, frozen stiff. Could the alligator have encountered the legendary Flying Phantom ghost ship? And if so, why?

Buck and Ears’ investigations lead them to Crabula City’s theatre and eventually to Mr Jiggles’ Bouncing Circus on the edge of the decidedly sticky Jelly Sea. With a wonderfully eccentric cast of characters, animal and human, this well plotted, occasionally spooky crime story is thoroughly original and lots of fun for readers. If they keep a look out on the pages for Agatha Fishty that will help them spot clues and it all adds to the reading experience.

Jennifer Bell scatters some wonderful fishy puns throughout the story too while Sarah Horne more than rises to the challenge of illustrating an armadillo stage manager, polar bear opera singer and, of course, the Jelly Sea. Those inspired by these buccaneer detectives will also enjoy Jennifer Pearson’s new series, How Not to be a Pirate.
