The Life of Richard Palmer, Better Known as Dick Turpin, the Notorious Highwayman and Robber Synopsis

Excerpt from The Life of Richard Palmer, Better Known as Dick Turpin, the Notorious Highwayman and Robber: Including His Numerous Exploits, Adventures, and Hair-Breadth Escapes, Trial and Execution; With Notices of Many of His Contemporaries

Tm: funeral day of Sir Mark Weston arrived, and though every search was made by old Stephen, the legal adviser who had drawn the document, and anther confidential friends of the late baronet, no will could be found, Sir Litton, confined to his bed - a fact which redounded highly to the credit of his filial affection among the numerous friends of the family - expressed no feigned anxiety abthe absence 'of the important parchment; though, as may easily be supposed, he was cautiously-silent as to the real cause of its disappearance. Nevertheless, though haunted with a dread of its discovery, he was in some measure consoled by the re?ection that, in consequence of the intestacy of his father, he inherited, unquestioned, the whole of his property. Curiosity, for few felt much concerned in the matter, however, soon subsided, and as days and weeks were on, Sir Litton became easy on the subject, and all enquiry ceased.
