The purpose of writing these stories about small or young animals is that children may learn to respect all animals. The more knowledge that they have of an animal the more they can love them. Loving animals means that they will not hurt them and they will want the best for them. The animals of the southwestern desert may look fearsome but that is for their own protection. To befriend one of Gods little critters brings out the best in all of us.
