The Other Boy

The Other Boy Synopsis

The true story of one boy's journey from Afghanistan to the UK, escaping the Taliban.

After Hamed's mother speaks up against the Taliban, their family is forced to flee their home in Herat, Afghanistan in search of safety. But what lies ahead of them is a long and terrifying journey out of Afghanistan and across Europe with the UK as their ultimate goal.

Thrown into an unfamiliar world of fake passports and untrustworthy handlers, Hamed and his family must learn how to live with nothing and avoid capture at all costs. But with his older brother, Hussein's life-threatening heart condition growing steadily worse, the journey soon becomes a race against time.

Once in the UK, Hamed struggles to make friends and feel at home. He fails his GCSE's and fails to win over his teachers. But inspired by his brother's positive outlook despite his failing health, Hamed finds his people, his place and his purpose.

An extraordinary true account that will help young readers to understand what life is like as a child refugee.
