This book tells the story about a frog who finds himself in the midst of an identity crisis and how he resolves to find his true self. On his journey, he discovers that he must successfully complete a 'princely' challenge in order to become himself once more. He is highly motivated and excited at this prospect, and, when he reaches the end of his journey and finally succeeds, he realizes that everything that he thought he wanted ends up not being so important. In fact, the 'prince' has actually been looking back at him from the proverbial mirror during his entire process. The conclusion brings a memorable twist that adds new meaning to the title of the book. This book is important for young children as it is about self-esteem: finding and accepting one's own inherent value. In today's social climate where bullying seems to be epidemic, it is imperative that young children develop self-confidence and have a strong sense of self-worth. This book is geared toward three- to ten-year-olds to support their sense of self at a critical time in their development, but it is truly a book for all ages; adults love and appreciate it as well.
