Wicked Writing Skills

This is a must for teachers wanting to engage in Non Fiction activities with their children. The range of activities allow the book to be used in lots of other subjects such as Geography, History and even PE. I have little doubt the children will enjoy the activities that you, as a teacher, can select to use with your class, and that such activities will produce excellent and WICKED Writing!

This is an excellent resource which compliments the previous release Creative Writing Skills. As a teacher this makes my job a lot easier as the cleverly designed resources will work well with the class I teach. The book is clearly structured into 7 areas with many different ideas in these areas.
The "author tips" help on some of the pages and will allow children to become confident with their writing. The book is presented in such a way that children will engage with the clever writing activities to produce a good quality piece of work. I also like how there is a combination of the skills at the end of the book.
My children will benefit from the activities such as 'add a caption to the picture' and the persuasion statements such as 'is winter better than summer?' The illustrations on most pages make it child friendly and are similar to that of other books written for children which they should therefore be able to relate to.
One suggestion which would help teachers is for there to be teacher page at the front of the book with some pitch and expectations or maybe a WAGGOL-what a good one looks like? This may allow teachers (and children) to see what their work may look like once completed.
I can’t wait to try all the activities with my class and look forward to creating some displays with some of the ideas suggested. “Invent a new sport” will create a PE display and other activities such as “How to build Egyptian pyramids” are cross curricular and can be completed as part of other lessons which makes the book a must for schools.

Wicked Writing Skills provides a huge selection of fun non-fiction writing prompts for young people to tackle. This book provides scaffolds and writing prompts to encourage young learners to tackle different genres of non-fiction writing with interesting and fun themes.
