Garland Of Lights A Diwali Story

A beautiful picture book that is a must for all EYFS and KS1 classrooms. An excellent starting point for introducing the festival of Diwali.

What an absolutely beautiful picture book! The stunning illustrations coupled with beautiful verse are a perfect introduction to the festival of Diwali. The information provided at the back of the book about the history of Diwali (including the significance for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains) and the glossary are excellent additions that help to contextualise this important festival. The concept of explaining Diwali through counting the lamps is a lovely idea to engage younger readers and the illustrations and accessible language that introduce key vocabulary related to this festival provide a excellent prompt for discussions, both for teaching inference and also exploring the different aspects of this festival. This book is a must for all EYFS and KS1 classrooms to support teaching of religious education.

A lovely counting book that introduces Diwali and its traditions for younger readers.

This is a beautifully illustrated counting book for young children that explains the Diwali traditions in a magical and heartwarming way. It is perfect for younger readers as the story is simple yet charming following a family as they prepare to celebrate.

The illustrations are vibrant and colourful which enhance the story and bring it to life. I can envisage lots of conversations about what is going on in the pictures that will really help to develop their understanding of the festival. The book also uses rhyming language which adds a fun and enjoyable element to the story. There is a glossary and additional information at the back of the book which is a great addition to explain some of the more difficult words and enhance their understanding. It is a brilliant learning tool which could also be used for older children to help introduce Diwali and the festive traditions.
