At LoveReading4Kids, we believe that reading for pleasure changes lives - and that no single organisation can do this work alone.
Our Literacy Partners are the charities, organisations and initiatives working across the UK to help children discover the joy, confidence and opportunity that reading brings. Together, we form a connected network supporting families, schools and communities to nurture the next generation of readers.
We are delighted to welcome Assisting Berkshire Children - ABC to Read as a LoveReading4Kids Literacy Partner. Set up in 2004 ABC to Read is an award winning, children’s reading charity that supports primary-aged children who are struggling to learn to read with the aim to expand their work into secondary schools. They work in partnership with over 100 Berkshire schools to provide trained and safer recruited volunteers who deliver regular one-to-one reading sessions during the school day. Their aim is to build children’s confidence, fluency and enjoyment of reading, helping them to reach their potential and engage more positively with learning. Many of the children supported by ABC to Read face additional barriers, including disadvantage, low confidence or limited support at home. By offering consistent, individual attention and a positive reading experience, they help children develop the foundations they need for future success in education and beyond.
In addition to one-to-one support, ABC to Read also deliver reading buddy workshops, training older pupils to support younger readers, developing both literacy skills and leadership. They also deliver parent workshops, giving families practical tools and confidence to support reading at home.
