At LoveReading4Kids, we believe that reading for pleasure changes lives - and that no single organisation can do this work alone.

Our Literacy Partners are the charities, organisations and initiatives working across the UK to help children discover the joy, confidence and opportunity that reading brings. Together, we form a connected network supporting families, schools and communities to nurture the next generation of readers.

We are delighted to welcome the UKLA, a charitable organisation committed to advancing literacy education in ways that enable all learners, irrespective of background or context, to develop as competent and confident literate individuals. UKLA adopts a broad conception of literacy, encompassing spoken language, reading and writing, as well as digital and multimodal forms of communication. The Association supports the development and dissemination of research-informed pedagogical practice through sustained dialogue between educators, researchers and other stakeholders.

As both a membership organisation and a subject association, UKLA promotes high-quality, inclusive literacy education grounded in evidence and professional expertise. It advocates for a broad and balanced literacy curriculum that recognises learners’ linguistic, social and cultural resources, supports cognitive, personal and affective development, and provides access to high-quality texts across print and digital media – including children’s books via the UKLA Book Awards. Membership is open to individuals and organisations aligned with these principles, and UKLA operates independently, funded primarily through membership, publications and professional events.

The core mission of the UKLA is to advance high-quality, inclusive literacy education that enables all learners to flourish as literate individuals, regardless of background or context. UKLA promotes a broad understanding of literacy that includes spoken language, reading, writing, and digital and multimodal forms of communication. Central to its mission is the fostering of meaningful dialogue between educators, researchers and communities, ensuring that literacy teaching and learning are informed by robust research, professional expertise and evolving pedagogical practice. As a subject association and membership organisation, UKLA is committed to promoting evidence-informed best practice, supporting a broad and balanced literacy curriculum, and advocating for equitable access to rich, diverse texts and learning opportunities that nurture learners’ cognitive, cultural, personal and affective development.
