Der im Wuppertal geborene Autor Dirk Walbrecker studierte Germanistik und Pädagogik in München. Das Studium brach er jedoch zugunsten von der Arbeit beim Film ab, von der Regieassistenz bis hin zur Kurzfilm-Regie. Bei dieser Tätigkeit lernte er auch die Liebe zum Schreiben, vor allem von Drehbüchern, kennen, weswegen er seit 1986 als freiberuflicher Autor arbeitet und neben Drehbüchern auch noch Hörspiele, Bilderbücher, sowie Kinder- und Jugendromane verfasst hat. Der dreimalige Vater unternimmt auch gerne Lesereisen in vielen verschiedenen Ländern.
