Seit 1969 veröffentlicht sie eigene Werke in Buchform, darunter auch die beliebte Pferdebuchreihe über Liebe, Leben und Freundschaft auf dem Reiterhof Dreililien, die sie zwischen 1983 und 1994 in insgesamt zehn Bänden veröffentlichte. Ursula Isbel schreibt vorwiegend Jugendliteratur. Außerdem übersetzte sie viele Jugendbücher aus dem Englischen und dem Schwedischen.
