What is World Kid Lit Month?

Every September is World Kid Lit Month, the time to explore international books for young people.

It’s the perfect time to read a children’s book from or set in another country, or a book translated into English from another language.

How to celebrate World Kid Lit Month?

However you like – the main thing is to share a love of reading as a way of broadening horizons. Here are three easy ways to get involved:

Read a book from or set in another country, or translated from another language. If you liked it, share it. Shout about it.

Recommend a book you’ve already read on social media. It can be a recent read or one from your childhood. What makes it international for you?

Share a resource to help others explore international books for young people.

New for 2025: Reading Challenge Award for Schools

The World Kid Lit Reading Challenge Award, launching in September 2025, is a new competition for schools to promote international and inclusive reading. To enter, run an international reading challenge in your school, where participants read a range of books from other countries, and then share what they have read in a reflective display or presentation. See here for more details.

To Celebrate World Kid Lit Month for 2025 we have collected here a selection of our favourite children's books in translation. We hope you enjoy them.
