A raucous and very funny contemporary series, starring 12-year-old wannabe ninja-rapper Humza Khan

Written by Humza Arshad, creator of the hit YouTube series Diary of a Bad Man, and comedy writer Henry White, the Little Badman series is fast- paced, funny and infused with a frenzy of madcap adventure.

Each comes heartily recommended for 8+ year-olds who want to be wildly entertained by a cracking lead character, with sweetness coming courtesy of the theme of friendship, alongside the eponymous aunties’ sugary snacks.

The first in the series, Little Badman and the Invasion of the Killer Aunties was shortlisted for the prestigious Branford Boase Award which recognises the most promising debut writers of children's ficiton. The judges commented

‘brilliant comedy’; ‘great fun, with a unique voice’; ‘full of heart – I’ve recommended it left, right and centre’; ‘the friendship between the two boys is so well drawn’.

The fun continued in Little Badman and the Time-travelling Teacher of Doom. With a long history of naughtiness, Little Badman’s second adventure sees him sent to Mahmood Academy Summer School in Pakistan with his best friend Umer, his partner in everything since they were the size of a bag of rice. Alongside the outrageous antics, whip-smart dialogue, and Little Badman’s irrepressible personality, there’s a wonderful grandfather-grandson relationship and representation of Little Badman’s engagement with Pakistan. Full marks!

And Eggington’s favourite rapper is back in Little Badman and the Rise of the Punjabi Zombies. It’s a total blast from beginning to end and one-liners that will bring the classroom down. Humza has a fabulous way with words and comic timing that is second to none, but there are surprisingly tender moments too with his mum and dad. Sick!

The books are the work of comedy writing team, Humza Arshad and Henry White, with Aleksei Bitskoff’s illustrations adding to the energy.

Humza Arshad is the first British YouTuber to have his own scripted comedy series on BBC Three in the mockumentary series Coconut. Since accumulating over ninety million views on his channel Humza has used his influence and comedy for a greater purpose.

In 2015, Humza performed at one hundred and twenty schools using comedy to prevent at risk teens of becoming radicalised. He is currently an ambassador for YouTube's Creators For Change campaign.

Henry White is a comedy writer, working in television, online, and most recently in children's fiction.

He grew up in West London, began his career in animation, has written and directed adverts for the BBC, worked as a sitcom staff writer, and enjoys penning silly songs for comedy channels. He also has a birthmark shaped like a duck.
