A friendly charming country tale about Landy the Land Rover. Landy is feeling sad and neglected, his only friends are the farm animals. Landy gets a new owner Jack, and his life is set to change for the better. With delightful full colour detailed illustrations (including two pages of ‘sepia toned’ drawings as Landy recollects his youth) and short text on each page, this is an engaging little tale. The author and illustrator Veronica Lamond has brought to life an animated (but realistic) Land Rover 1956 series 1 and 1999 Defender in her ‘Landy and Fender’ series. The headlights become expressive eyes and the grill an articulate mouth, just these two additions help you to see and feel exactly what Landy and Fender are thinking. These books are of course aimed at delighting children, however they would also make an appealing addition to the book shelves of any Land Rover enthusiasts or farming and fishing folk. ~ Liz Robinson
The magazine Land Rover Owner has recently interviewed Veronica about her Landy and Fender books...."Kids always love their parents' Land Rover. They understand that Land Rovers are different from ordinary cars and have their own personalites. But, while there are lots of Land Rover books for mum and dad, young enthusiasts had nothing. Then five years ago a beautiful book titled Landy appeared. At Land Rover Owner we loved it..." Read the whole article here.

The Landybook series engage children in diverse, real life activities through the lovable, animated characters of Landy (1956 Series 1) and Fender (1999 Defender).
Veronica Lamond set out to create inspirational and practical picture books for young children. “Wherever I went, I noticed Land Rovers at work. Capturing this sense of activity and adventure, I began to weave a world around two old working Land Rovers in my neighbourhood. The stories are based on Landy and Fender and their energetic young owners, Jack and Dan.
“I wanted to paint characters based on real life vehicles that don’t drive around by themselves and aren’t cartoonlike in appearance. This distinguishes my work from other books about animated cars and trains. I translate into illustration the close relationship that so many people have with their own vehicles, with some adventures along the way…this makes my stories feel very real”.
Since publication, Veronica has been pleased to find that the books are loved equally by boys and girls.
“I get streams of emails from fathers all over the world, saying how much they and their daughters enjoy reading my books together. I have also sold thousands of books to adults for themselves.”
Jaguar Land Rover has endorsed her books and Veronica now works under licence with them.
“We're pleased that Veronica Lamond has brought the classic Land Rover Defender to life for a new generation. We wish her every success.” Lindsay Weaver - Licensing & Branded Goods Director, Jaguar Land Rover.
