A familiarity with fairy tales is useful to enjoy this charming little book to the full. Lucy is reading to her dog Mr Barker but he’s not paying attention, in fact he’s soon off out through the window into – whose house could it be? There’s a broken chair, three bowls of porridge and a little golden-haired girl tucking in … Most readers will guess of course that this house belongs to the three bears, and when Lucy spots them coming she and her friends slip out through another little door to find themselves in the straw house with the three little pigs.
From there they visit the Giant’s house, Sleeping Beauty’s castle and run past the gingerbread house in the forest! Jessica Alhberg has her mother Janet’s gift for creating cosy scenes full of detail as well as her father’s wit.
