March 2017 Debut of the Month | In a nutshell: gentle but inspiring stories of a little girl’s brush with magic | Jessica Ennis-Hill is best known as an Olympic gold medallist but now she’s setting out as a children’s author. Inspired by her own young family – and it seems by vivid memories of what she enjoyed most as a child – she’s created a fun, contemporary story about a little girl who receives a special present from her grandma, a bracelet that gives her magical powers, such as the ability to talk to animals. The idea of being magic is always thrilling to young readers but just as enjoyable are the descriptions of Evie’s home and school life, and particularly the joyful way she and her friends jump and leap in the playground, and the fun they have taking part in a special running race. ~ Andrea Reece
