Adapted from one of Tove Jansson's classic Moomintroll stories, this comic tale of misunderstanding is perfect Christmas reading.
The Moomintrolls are all tucked up in bed, sleeping their long winter sleep when the Hemulen falls into their attic and tells them they need to get ready for Christmas. With no experience of Christmas, the Moomintrolls are a bit rattled, but manage to prepare everything in time – tree, presents, a feast. They share it with the little creatures of Moominvalley, who appreciate it all very much indeed. Funny, cosy and reassuring, this charming little story will put everyone in the mood for Christmas and the new paperback edition is just the thing for winter bedtimes.
The book that you hold in your hands is going to whisk you away on an amazing adventure with Moomintroll, his family and their friends in Moominvalley. This story is based on books written by my aunt Tove Jansson almost 75 years ago – books that your parents and their parents might even have read!
As a child I used to love listening to stories read aloud by
grown-ups. What a wonderful feeling it was to sit curled up in the crook of someone’s arm, listening to the story, looking at the pictures, and seeing new pictures drawn in my mind. It was
my favourite part of the day, and it made me the book lover that
I still am. I hope that these books will inspire the same feeling in
you – we’re off on an adventure to the magical world of Moominvalley, where absolutely anything can happen!

A beautiful and classic picture book, debossed and foiled, the paperback edition of Christmas Comes to Moominvalley is the perfect gift for Moomin fans of all ages. This is an exquisitely illustrated and authentic re-telling of Tove Jansson's classic story The Fir Tree, in which the Moomins are woken up from their winter sleep to be told that 'Christmas' is coming. The only trouble is, the Moomins have no idea who, or what Christmas is...
The sensitively adapted words in this classic picture book capture Tove Jansson's uniquely wise, perceptive and original voice, and are paired with delicate, painterly illustrations full of character and detail and based on Jansson's original drawings and colour plates. A new generation of readers will enjoy meeting the loveable Moomin family and friends, with their special values of tolerance, kindness and integrity, as they prepare for their very first Christmas and try to solve the puzzle of what 'Christmas' is really all about.
