Two young creatures meet and play in the snowy wilds of the Arctic in this story of friendship, adventure and love. Miki, a little polar bear, is scampering through the snow while Mum goes fishing, when he sees a red dot in the distance. The dot turns out to be a little girl in a bright red coat. They play together and when his new friend loses her mitten, Miki dives into the water and saves it. He also helps the girl find her mummy, before he dashes back to find his own mother. It’s a simple story, but full of energy and vigour, and with moments of drama and poignancy. Fiona Woodcock’s illustrations create swirling snowstorms and moments of tenderness between parent and child with equal skill.
