Glow Worms is an action packed science-fiction adventure. On the hunt to find more glowing bricks discovered down a well in his garden, Jack unwittingly frees an extra-terrestrial prisoner and puts everyone in danger. Old friends and new need to come together to ensure that the terrible creature they’ve released is stopped before there are fatalities.
I found this an entertaining adventure story for middle-grade readers, with interesting characters, plenty of action and exciting science-fiction thrills.
I like the characterisation of Jack’s Aunt and Uncle, and have a soft spot for Cody, the labrador. The author clearly has a good understanding of science fiction, and I think his knowledge and research also helped to develop Uncle Fred’s rather eccentric inventor persona. The book begins by introducing you to Jack and his day to day life before the adventure begins. The chapters are short and easy to digest, which I think would make this book ideal for slightly younger readers.
I think that this would be a great book for readers who are interested in science fiction or for those looking for an action-packed adventure to enjoy.
