There’s a party going on in the big house, and the mice in the little house (door in the skirting board) are very excited. They’ve heard the instruction to the guests to, ‘Say cheese!’ but where is it? At first it seems there’s not even a whiff or a sniff of it, not a slice or a sliver. But don’t worry, there’s twist in the tale and a happy, cheesy ending for all. Little children will identify with the mice and with their misunderstandings, and recognise their low-level point of view too, while the text is full of repetition to encourage less confident readers. It all makes for a very tasty story, with no reason for anyone to feel cheesed-off.
