"A little monster helps us be more mindful"
Mindfulness and its techniques benefit every one of us and this bright, accessible and appealing picture book does a very good job of introducing it to the youngest.
Pickle the little monster will have to start a new school because his family are moving house and thinking about it gives him a yucky, fizzy feeling in his tummy.
His teacher Mr Growl suggests keeping a mindful journal and Pickle notes down ten days’ worth of mindful activities, from meditating and yoga to mindful eating and listening, and sensory play.
As well as descriptions of what Pickle did, there are descriptions of the way it makes him feel. With Pickle there as our guide, it all feels achievable and most of all fun. Children will enjoy this as a story but it should also start them on a mindful path that could benefit them all their lives.
