But Tilda has had some advice from her Rainbow Bear and knows she doesn’t need silly jokes and loud games to try and cheer Bella up today. This is a lovely story that shows a soft, kind way of helping people when they feel sad. The story shows that it’s not all about trying to cheer someone up or change their mood, but being as compassionate and supportive as you can.

The pictures are a gentle muted colour that compliments the theme of the story well while still being bold enough to attract the attention of younger readers. The layout of one image and the text on the next page on a white background balances large, clear illustrations with easy to read text for younger readers that might want to try reading for themselves.

It’s also a good format for reading to a group if you were to open the book pages so the text was facing the reader and the images were facing a classroom of children. A good picture book demonstrating one of the many different forms of kindness.
