Ross Welford always comes up with original and fantastical plots and The Unlikely Diary of Prince Kal the Alien is no different. Prince Kalimonka Evergreen Wildgore of the Imaginaria Forest arrives by accident on the seashore of Budle Bay, Northumberland – a mishap caused when he falls into his tutor Feliquoz’s time bending Anywhere Cabinet, attempting to retrieve a Fortune Crystal from the paws of an injured oofus he’s been trying to help.

Kal stands out in Ingle-land, as he has it, being only the size of a toddler and completely hairless. His demands to see the king don’t go down too well with the local police or with social services but his efforts to convince his foster family of what’s happened, and what he needs to do to get back home, are boosted when Feliquoz arrives too.

Kal’s misunderstandings provide lots of entertainment, the cast of human characters give a wonderfully warm sense of normality, and there’s tension by the bucketload as Kal’s window to get back home narrows. Readers will be thrilled to discover that the Budle Bay Biddies swim club turn out to be crucial to the success of Kal and Feliquoz’s return mission, but best of all, a totally unforeseen (by this reader at least) twist means they will have to come back soon.

This book was amazingly hilarious! I couldn't put it down and had to read it within two days! An alien is stuck in England, how will he find enough crystal to get home?

This book was amazingly hilarious! I couldn't put it down and had to read it within two days! This story is about an alien that came to England (Ingle-land!) in his 'Anywhere Cabinet'. None of the humans understand that he is a prince - Prince Kalimonka Evergreen Wildfire of the Imaginaria Forests! An injured Oofus that he found on his home planet took his fortune crystal, which is the only way back home! The oofus escaped from him with the fortune crystal and completely disappeared! Even if he finds the crystal, how will he get enough ember (magic) to power it?!

I would recommend this story to any adventurous readers who enjoys fantasy set in an everyday environment.... Read Full Review
