Young readers will really relate to this hilarious tale of a bridge stand-off. One single carriageway rickety old bridge and two large animals determined that they should be the one to cross first. As they probe each other’s weaknesses and come up with ever more inventive insults, the reader will see the creaks and cracks which suggest impending doom for the foolish protagonists.
But just like the fabled Robin Hood and Little John standoff, they end as friends for life having rescued each other from the river far below.
Mark Chambers’ lively and characterful illustrations capture the body language of outrage and insult perfectly and the lively page design effectively follows the back and forth of the dialogue and both the descent into the depths and the precarious flight out of the ravine.
It teaches a valuable lesson about the power of cooperation and the importance of seeing another’s point of view and should be a popular read aloud.
When Bear meets Dragon on an old, rickety bridge, they don't see eye to eye. Bear thinks Dragon should stand aside and let him pass . . . . . . and Dragon thinks Bear should definitely let her go first. Fur is ruffled and sparks fly in their heated conversation, but who is going to back down? Meanwhile the bridge is getting creakier and creakier . . .
"Children will love the impending sense of doom, the idiotic cluelessness of the protagonists and the insults Bear and Dragon hurl at each other... Lively and hilarious." - The Bookseller

About Marcela Ferreira
Marcela Ferreira was born in Rio de Janeiro and spent her childhood between the beach and her grandparents’ farm. She moved to London as a teenager and had to quickly get to grips with a whole new language (tough times!). The experience was transformative.
Being bilingual means a joyful interest in tongue twisting stories, as well as how country and culture affect the tales we tell. Unsurprisingly, her stories tend to focus on friendship, growth, change, and being yourself - though funny ones are her favourite.
Her debut picture book, The Queen Next Door was shortlisted for the Waterstone’s Illustrated Book Prize 2024. She is also the author of The Treasure, Bear Vs Dragon and I Could Be Eaten By a Shark.
