"A funny, true, heartwarming and perfectly observed slice of contemporary family life"
As readers familiar with Ferris Foster will know, there’s nothing he likes better than drawing, so he knows exactly how he’s going to spend his half-term especially when there’s £1,000 to be won in a cartoon-strip competition run by his favourite comic.
Ferris thinks the money would be a big factor in convincing social services that he and his mums are the perfect forever family for his little foster sister Keeley. His plans are disrupted however, and he ends up accompanying his new foster brother Arthur to space-camp.
It’s a dream come true for Arthur, who is space obsessed, not so much for Ferris, who still needs to complete and send off his competition entry.
The stage is set for all sorts of drama therefore, much of it very funny too, and the frequent cartoons and comic strips make it even more appealing reading. What really makes these books special however is Ferris himself. A kinder, more caring and compassionate young man it would be hard to find, yet he always feels completely credible, irritated by Arthur’s stream of space facts, but always ready to help him calm down when things get too much, so loving with little Keeley.
It’s another funny, true, heartwarming and perfectly observed slice of contemporary family life, and super enjoyable.
