Malika, aka Boog, and her best friends, Jules and Cedric, have pretty strict parents. They like to know where their kids are at all times and insist they’re home by sundown. The friends get it: their town used to be plagued by vampires until a band of vampire hunters, the Vanquishers, wiped them out, so they don’t mind – much – that their parents take precautions like dowsing their homes with garlic and lining the doors with silver.

But then a new boy at school disappears and suddenly it seems vampires are back. Boog and ‘the squad’ must save their new friend both from the vampires and their parents, and together they have to uncover the undead and their allies hiding in the community.

A fresh new take on the vampire story, The Vanquishers is as much concerned with the squad’s friendship as it is with blood-sucking monsters, the dialogue is as sharp as a vampire’s fangs, and this is fast-paced fun. Everything is set up nicely at the end for more adventures, and readers will definitely be looking forward to finding out what happens next.
