A lonely little black girl, born with a left hand that looks similar to a lobster's claw, does not look forward to starting school. She feels the kids will pick on her and not play with her because she was born different. She does not understand why God would allow her to be born this way. Her journey throughout the school year teaches her that she can do anything the other kids can do. She learns to love herself and to not care about what others think of her. With guidance from her grandmother and new friends, she confronts a bully that soon becomes a friend.
