Fresh from her exploits in occupied France, Rosie Raja, aka Churchill’s youngest spy, is back in action. She accompanies her father on an undercover mission to Cairo. Ostensibly, he is an Egyptologist, there to protect antiquities should the Nazis invade, really he’s there to uncover a traitor who is sharing secrets with the Germans.
Rosie likes Cairo very much as it reminds her in some ways of her home in India. Even though the Nazis aren’t there, Cairo turns out to be just as dangerous for her as Paris, and she needs all her intelligence, courage and quick thinking to get out alive. Readers of the first in this series, Churchill’s Spy, will have been looking forward to this and it doesn’t disappoint. Rosie’s adventures are exciting, feel completely credible, and provide young readers with a really good understanding of World War II and its impact on all the people who lived through it.
Rosie’s friendship with Fatima, daughter of one of her father’s allies and a passionate advocate for keeping all artefacts in their country of origin, is another of the treats of the book.
