Your dreams can be enormous, even though you might be small. You just need to believe you can be anything at all.
These lines open and close this positive and inspiring picture book, and in between we play and explore with four lively little friends as they build models, explore ‘jungles’ and go swimming with whales. Not only do their games look great fun, but they also hint at all the things the children could do in the future. Playful but delightfully accurate in its depiction of small children, it’s a book to make readers of all ages smile and feel happy.
A lovely exploration of the often mused question of what are you going to be when you grow up? It also has a satisfying bedtime ending as the friends go home and dream of who they will become.
Even though you might be small, if you just believe, you could be anything at all!
What do you want to be when you grow up? A pirate or a dinosaur hunter, an engineer or a doctor? Through dressing up and imaginary play, there's nothing these four best friends can't be.
Frances Stickley grew up in Nottingham and Norwich, where she spent much of her time making up poems and dressing up her dog. She is a trained children's literacy specialist and a primary school teacher who is happiest when she is covered in paint or stuck in a book. Frances first realised her love for writing with the poem, 'My Dad's Milkfloat', when she was six.
In 2017, Frances was the winner of the Bloomsbury and National Literacy Trust short story prize. She lives with her family and a big-eared dog called Babbage. When she is not writing, you'll probably find her in a forest playing dragons with her daughters.
