Cloudburst Reader Reviews

Cloudburst

This is an action-packed book and there are some interesting characters.

I was surprised by what happened to Jacks brother. It’s interesting to read about D.R.C. I think Jack is brave because he threw a golf ball at a person on a motorbike it hit him square on the head and knocked him out so they could get dads briefcase back. It is well written because it makes you want to read on.

Cloudburst is an exceptional adventure book for all ages and is a must-read for any young authors looking for inspiration.

Cloudburst is a fascinating story about Jack Courtney and his journey to find his parents and fight against the many illegal and disgusting things that his dad and uncle have been doing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Wilbur Smith does an amazing job at not rushing the story and paces it in a way which makes you not stop reading and be eager to find out what will happen next. In the beginning, Jack thinks that his parents are here for a gorilla conference but it turns out that his dad and uncle were not doing that at all and instead faked a kidnap for money and were in charge of a child labour mining facility. This book excels in discussing topics like this while not straying from the main point of the story. In conclusion, Cloudburst is an exceptional adventure book for all ages and is a must-read for any young authors looking for inspiration.

If you like adventure, mystery and action you have to read this book!

This book is about a boy called Jack and his friends Amelia and Xander and they go with his parents to the Democratic Republic of the Congo because Jack’s parents are nature conservationists. They are going because Jack’s parents want to stop illegal mining. While Jack’s parents are at their conferences, they decide Jack and his friends should go on a safari trip to the rainforest. Jack and his friends think that this is going to be fun until they find out that Jack’s self-centred, ignorant cousin is coming with them. Jack doesn’t like his cousin Caleb because he is annoying and always trying to show off. The safari they go on is with a guide called Innocent.

On the first day of the safari, they go out to look for chimpanzees and after a long day, they finally see them. On their way back to camp they encounter some very dangerous armed poachers. When the poachers finally let them go, they return to camp but Caleb isn’t happy, so he insists that they go to find the poachers’ camp so that they can report them to the authorities. This goes very successfully and then the next day they go on another trek to find silverback gorillas and then when they find them they stay away from them (so the gorillas don’t know they are there and so they don’t attack) but because Caleb is a show-off he approaches one of the male gorillas and puts everyone in danger.

Then they leave the rainforest to go back to their hotel. This is when tragedy happens. Jacks finds that his parents have been kidnapped and there is a $75,000 ransom to set them free. To prove it was his parents they even sent a specimen of his Mums hair attached the ransom note. This was no joke.

Does he get his parents back?
Does he pay the ransom?

We give it 50 stars. If you like adventure, mystery and action you have to read this book!

Cloudburst tells the story of Jacks adventure in the rainforests of Africa. It is full of suspense and you won’t be able to guess what happens next!

This book tells the story of Jack’s adventure in the rainforests of Africa and his family relationships. Is someone close to him holding secrets? The writing is very descriptive so you feel what the characters are experiencing and can picture what they are seeing. Each chapter is short but you want to read on because sometimes you cannot believe what you are reading. Did that really happen? What will happen next? If you like suspense and can deal with unexpected surprises in a story, then this book is for you! The language was a bit challenging for me so I’d recommend this book for children who are eleven plus.

He, his parents and 2 friends go to Kinshasa, Africa, to attend an environmental meeting soon someone steals Mr. Courtney’s briefcase but, soon after they get the briefcase back, Mr. and Mrs. Courtney get kidnapped while visiting one of Jack’s uncle’s mines.

Should they pay the ransom?

Cloudburst is the brilliant, fast-paced, first book in an action-packed adventure series by the king of adventure Wilbur Smith, set around Jack Courtney and his family.

Jack Courtney gets caught up in all kinds of danger as he desperately tries to find his parents who were abducted while attending an environmental summit in The Democratic Republic of Congo. Jack and his friends are up against ruthless forces determined to stop them from revealing the truth. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from start to finish and would highly recommend it for fans of action and adventure.

A great read for kids age 10 and up.

I really enjoyed Cloudburst, it was full of twists and turns and gave you a feeling of anticipation from the very beginning.

I loved the way the scene was set so clearly, you could almost feel the humidity.

The characters had some interesting and sad back stories which made you feel like you knew them.

This is a great book for kids age 10 plus but is also good for older kids too as it covers lots of issues.

A great read that grabs your attention and gives lots of interesting information about Africa. Good for boys and girls who love an exciting read

I enjoyed reading this book but found it a bit hard. It's a really exciting book and I found it very realistic which caught my attention.

I think it would be a great book for both boys and girls of a similar age to me (8) or maybe a little older.
