Dread Wood

Living up to it’s name Dread Wood is a scary mystery book that captured me, it was so compelling, that the day I got it I finished it! The characters are really in-depth and when reading I got to know them and I could sympathise for them.

Living up to it’s name Dread Wood is a scary mystery book that captured me, it was so compelling, that the day I got it I finished it! The characters are really in-depth and when reading I got to know them and I could sympathise for them.

Overall there isn’t anything to complain about other than the fact that the school wasn’t explained that well, so I had trouble imagining it at some points.

The pacing of this story was perfect so that it kept me on my toes and although the story wasn’t particularly realistic it made sense. In addition due to the personalities of the characters it was genuinely funny and even made me laugh out loud.

I am also looking forward to the next book, Flinch especially because I have read a suspenseful extract. Personally, I would recommend this, but to over nine-year-olds because it was quite scary.

A Saturday school detention isn’t fun but is it safe? Find out what may be lurking beneath Dreadwood High in this exciting easy to read book for fans of horror.

This is not a book for people with arachnophobia! Set in an American high school, this book tells the story of Angelo who is blackmailed by someone who knows his secret. He has to get into trouble on purpose to get a Saturday detention or it will be revealed. Who is blackmailing him and why do they want him to be at school at the weekend? During detention Angelo and the other children begin to wonder why Mr and Mrs Latchitt (the caretakers) keep humming and whistling the tune of incy windy spider. Panic then sets in when the detention supervisor is dragged underground by something… you may be able to guess what from the clues but who and why is Angelo being targeted? This story is exciting and I read it all in one go as it is easy to read. I like how amidst the horror there was laughter (particularly from Gus who is a funny character) and friendship.

Dread Wood is soooooo good. Even before opening the book we knew it would be because Jennifer Killick wrote it.

Four kids gather together at school on a Saturday for a detention but this is like no normal detention. It all starts going wrong when there’s a scream in the school grounds and soon after their teacher disappears.

Despite not knowing each other, the four kids - Angelo, Gustav, Naira and Hallie - work together and as well as scary moments they are so many side-splitting moments which had me giggling for ages afterwards. There is something strange happening at the school and if the kids don’t contain it more people could be in danger.

This book has it all: horror, humour and heartwarming moments. I can’t wait for book two to come out!

A creepy adventure story that will have you on the edge of your seat!

The start of the book is really exciting and grabs the reader because of the mysterious first chapter. It makes you ask yourself, why are they at this school and what is it like?
I enjoyed the way the characters are described in the second chapter and how well their personalities are explained.
My favourite part of the book was when they were trying to defeat the spiders and Angelo is finding out what's happening. There was a lot of action and adventure throughout the book and you can really feel what the characters are feeling. Will they die or survive?

Overall, I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes creepy adventure stories!

I found this book to be full of adventure, humour and excitement all the way through. A definite edge of your seat read.

This book is about 4 children who went to Dreadwood High School, they are given a detention and have to attend school on the weekend. The school pig is missing when they arrive for detention, soon after their teacher Mr Canton also goes missing in a hole that leads underground.

I found this book to be full of adventure, humour and excitement all the way through. A definite edge of your seat read.

Love this book hoping for another

I loved reading this great story which had me gripped the whole time. This book follows class mates (not best mates) who are made to come to detention on a SATURDAY! What can be worse than that? Well read 'Dread Wood' and you will definitely find out. Having no choice but to work together to try and stop all this but could there be a reason why this is all happening and why Hallie, Angelo, Gustav and Naira have been made to have detention. This book has so much tension and suspense I love it. Will be reading more of Jennifer killicks books now.
