The Girl, the Ghost and the Lost Name

Intriguing and imaginative! If you are looking for a magical story you can’t put down, look no further than this book about Corpse the ghost and the power of her heart!

Ever wondered what it might be like to be a ghost or where witches get their magic? A kidnapped girl is killed and finds herself as a ghost who cannot remember her name. If Corpse can find her heart she may be able to get the memories of her lived life back, but there are others who want the magic her heart contains too. Will she find it first? And if she does, will it bring her what she thought she wanted? My favourite character was Simon the spider who is kind and helps Corpse fight her foe. As a ghost, Corpse can speak with animals and possess objects or living creatures. I enjoy fantasy stories and I read this book in one day, as it is easy to read, imaginative and intriguing. I would recommend it for anyone aged 7+

This book was amazing and full of adventure.

This book was amazing and full of adventure. It’s about a girl kid ghost named Corpse. She doesn’t want to slip into the final death like her old friends so she’s made herself a body.
She has bright green seaweed for hair, a pair of abalone shells for eyes, two rows of pebbles for teeth and a wax body. She haunts the house of the three witches who lure children into their house to use them in their magical potions.
Corpse can do magic so the witches don’t even know that a kid ghost is watching them.
Corpse has a pet spider called Simon and one day they find out that she can speak to some humans who help her gain her memories back.
The witches have taken a locket from her which contains her real name and her memories from when she was alive and she needs to get it back.

This is an fun, exciting and original story. The descriptive words and brilliant illustrations bring to life a story full of magic, suspense and treasure!

This was an amazing book! I love the setting and storyline, the setting is a forgotten town, beach and a rock that doesn't exist. I really love the characters - instead of a generic ghost and a typical witch, the author has almost re-invented ghosts and witches. Without spoiling to much, unlike a usual ghost, Corpse has to build/maintain her body and all ghosts can speak to animals. The storyline is full of supernatural, treasure and family.

An eerie, spine-tingling read that will have you on the edge of your seat, eager to reach the end to have all of your questions answered, and which is perfect for the long autumn evenings.

Right from the get-go this magical yet sinister book will have you gripped and desperate to finish it. Who is the mysterious narrator and why is she made of seaweed, shells, pebbles and wax? Who are ‘they’ from whom she stole the candle wax to form her skin? Why is she marooned on a rock that doesn’t exist that sits off the coast from the town that nobody visits with its air of sadness and threat where nothing is as it should be?
Prickly main character, Corpse, has no memory of her life before becoming a ghost destined to spend her days on the rock-that-doesn’t-exist with her sole companion, Simon, and a malevolent trio of witches who are completely unaware of her presence. Corpse is desperate to leave the rock and find her memories, her family and her name but she is trapped, with no way of escaping, until an elderly ghost appears with a message from a friend and a solution to her problems.
But Corpse’s every move is thwarted by the witches and a sinister figure from her past all of whom will do everything in their power to ensure that Corpse does not get what she wants.
A thrilling page-turner for fans of Neil Gaiman’s ‘Graveyard Book’ but definitely not for the faint-hearted!

A really great spooky story, I hope there’ll be more!

I wasn’t sure about this book when my mum told me she’d got it for me but I was not disappointed at all. It’s a fabulously face paced spooky adventure with lots of twists and turns. I love spooky stuff, Halloween is my favourite time of year. I’ll be letting my friends borrow this book as I know they’ll love it too - especially the Were Squid!!

A suspenseful book for Halloween!

This is a suspenseful story about the ghost of a girl who lives in the rafters of a house where three witches live, on a rocky island that doesn't exist. The witches get their magic from the island, but one day the magic starts to fade. The witches need to find a new 'spell spring' to strengthen their magic, but in doing so they reveal to the ghost who she once was...

This would be a good book for Halloween! It's mysterious but not overly creepy (even though it's about ghosts and witches). I particularly liked the character of the were-squid because it has a habit of turning up at random moments. While it isn't exactly a page turner, the tale draws you in the longer you read and I definitely wanted to keep reading and find out how it ended.

Corpse, a child ghost can't remember anything about her life but can she get the treasure that will help her remember it all.

Wow this book is amazing I couldn't put it down. It follows a ghost child called Corpse who can't remember anything about her life. She discovers that there is a treasure that could give her all the answers but she's got a lot to battle to get to it like sea monsters and also the witches who want it for themselves.
