A unique and interesting book telling the tale of a young girl who enters an escape room type video game. She has to solve puzzles, locate keys and survive in a dangerous world.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Eden, the main character, enters an escape room type computer game. She meets people along the way, solves puzzles and searches for the special keys. I love the way the music kept changing to show tension as it was like a computer game or tv show. I think my brother might like this too and it wasn't too scary. I'd say it would be a great book for 8 to 12 year olds.
With his imaginative words, Christopher Edge has constructed a world that glitches in and out of existence and ensnares the reader and plunges them tumultuously into a whole new world.
After following a trail of clues left by the mysterious character AMI, Eden finds herself swallowed up by a murmuration of birds which leads her into a virtual reality game called The Escape. Surrounded by lush hills, verdant greenery and a stubborn adversary called Ted; Eden has to navigate the terrifying yet thrilling twists and turns of The Escape. As Eden and Ted search for the keys to save reality, a nefarious scheme is brewing. A scheme which will have dire consequences if no one takes action. Can Eden and Ted overcome their differences to save reality?
I love a good escape room – full of mystery and thrills. Each riddle solved is a step towards escaping to freedom. Christopher Edge’s first book was a delightful, don’t-stop-running, race-to-the-end adventure and Escape Room: Game Over definitely lives up to it; perhaps even surpasses it.
This book took me on a mind-boggling adventure across The Escape, keeping me on tenterhooks the whole time. My heart roared deafeningly in my ears as I navigated the danger-laced, lush hills of the escape and my mind raced frantically to figure out the answer - each challenge more exciting than the last, each twist opening a new opportunity. And as I read, I drummed my fingers against the table impatient to see how the story would unfold.
Ted is stubborn and acts like Eden is part of the game (NPC). He doesn’t treat Eden like she is a human being and thinks he is better than her (or anybody else for that matter).
As Eden makes her way through the game, I sit at the edge of my seat, watching her save Ted from countless dangers in their attempt to find the fabled keys. She was my favourite character as she is courageous and keeps her head held high. She manages to escape ferocious wolves, solves impossible riddles and cracks cryptic codes relentlessly even as she is ripped from reality. Annoyingly, despite all this, Ted still thinks she is an NPC (non-player-character). I waited for an apology on Ted’s part, but it never came, tarnishing his reputation in my eyes. I found Ted dogmatic as he refuses to believe anyone but himself and I smiled with glee when he pays the price by finding himself submitting to a master of subterfuge.

I think this action-packed adventure mystery is perfect for 10-13 year olds and video-game enthusiasts - especially fans of legends-of-Zelda.
I would give this book a 11 out of 10.
