A Children’s Treasury Of Christmas Stories

A Children’s Treasury Of Christmas Stories

Author: Charles Dickens Narrator: Eden Giuliano, The Icon Players Release Date: 01/10/2019

11-year-old actor Eden Giuliano presents a brand new line of exciting children’s stories from Icon! The now classic Christmas tales by Charles Dickens were written at a time when the British were exploring and re-evaluating past Christmas traditions, including carols and newer customs such as Christmas trees. He was influenced by the experiences of his own youth and by the Christmas stories of other authors including Washington Irving and Douglas Jerrold. Dickens had written three Christmas stories prior to the novella, A Christmas Carol, and was inspired following a visit to the Field Lane Ragged School, one of several establishments for London's street children. The treatment of the poor and the ability of a selfish man to redeem himself by transforming into a more sympathetic character are the key themes of the story. There is long standing discussion among academics as to whether this story, in particular, was a fully secular story, or if it is indeed, a Christian allegory. Charles Dickens captured the zeitgeist of the mid-Victorian revival of the Christmas holiday. Dickens freely acknowledged the influence of the modern Western observance of Christmas, and later inspired several aspects of Christmas, including family gatherings, seasonal food and drink, dancing, games and a festive generosity of spirit. Aesop's Fables - Illuminations From Aesop's Fables A Treasury Of Lost Tales

Aesop's Fables - Illuminations From Aesop's Fables A Treasury Of Lost Tales

Author: Aesop Narrator: Eden Giuliano, The Icon Players Release Date: 01/11/2019

11-year-old actor Eden Giuliano presents a brand new line of exciting children's stories from Icon! Remember the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper? the Fox and the Sour Grapes? The Boy who Cried Wolf? These wonderful tales and hundreds more have been passed down to us over the centuries. The man credited with writing them, Aesop, was an Ancient Greek slave born about 620 B.C. Aesop is known as a fabulist or story teller credited with a number of fables shining glaringly true light on our human foibles now collectively known as Aesop's Fables. Although no writings by him survive, numerous tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Many of the tales are characterized by animals and inanimate objects that speak, solve problems, and generally have human characteristics. Scattered details of Aesop's life can be found in ancient sources, including Aristotle, Herodotus, and Plutarch. An ancient literary work called The Aesop Romance tells an episodic, probably highly fictional version of his life, including the traditional description of him as a strikingly ugly slave who by his cleverness acquires freedom and becomes an adviser to kings and city-states. A later tradition depicts Aesop as a black Ethiopian. But whatever his history, the fables depict truths about human behavior, our strengths and weakness that have remained true for 2500 years. An Icon Young People's Classic Oliver Twist

Author: Charles Dickens Narrator: Eden Giuliano, The Icon Players Release Date: 01/11/2019

11-year-old actor Eden Giuliano presents a brand new line of exciting children's stories from Icon! "Please sir, I want some more,' the famous line spoken by Oliver Twist at age nine, becomes the tipping point of a huge change in Oliver's life. He is soon captured into the service of the evil Fagin and his gang of pick-pocketing boys. Mr. Brownlow, however, saves him from arrest, and for the first time in his young life Oliver finds comfort and caring. Unfortunately, he is soon recaptured into the seedy world from which he he had escaped, and meets with Bill Sykes, a highly dangerous criminal. There are numerous delightful and suitably wicked characters which carry the story along, such as the clever, Artful Dodger, a mean boy of the streets under Fagin, Mr. Bumble the Beadle, ever looking for ways to get rid of the naughty Oliver, Nancy who makes a fateful betrayal, and the Maylies, whose deep affection Oliver craves. The author's descriptions of the back street life in London of that time, illumine the abject poverty and the way in which the hopeless poor were treated during that time. Charles Dickens wrote Oliver Twist as a popular newspaper serial in 1837. We know you will enjoy this very special series from Icon Audio Arts hosted by young Eden Giuliano!
