Deadly Aim: The Civil War Story of Michigan's Anishinaabe Sharpshooters
More than 20,000 American Indians served in the Civil War, yet their stories have often been left out of the history books. In Deadly Aim, Sally M. Walker explores the extraordinary lives of Michigan's Anishinaabe sharpshooters. These brave soldiers served with honor and heroism in the line of duty, despite enduring broken treaties, loss of tribal lands, and racism. Filled with fascinating and gripping firsthand accounts from the frontlines, this book teaches listeners about Company K, the elite band of sharpshooters, and Daniel Mwakewenah, the chief who killed more than thirty-two rebels in a single battle despite being gravely wounded. Walker celebrates the lives of the soldiers whose stories have been left in the margins of history for too long with extensive research and consultation with the Repatriation Department for the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, the Eyaawing Museum and Cultural Center, and the Ziibiwing Center of Anishinaabe Culture and Lifeways.

Dear Baseball Gods, I hustled. I worked hard. I played the game the right way. Why did you let this happen? I sat by beside a tree, staring at the ground, trying to decide what I would do next. The news was unthinkable-everything I worked for was now ruined. A second Tommy John surgery? Does anyone come back from this? What team would want a broken-down, injury-prone right-handed pitcher? A Story of Perseverance I had been through a lot already. Starting as a walk-on in college, I had to earn everything. I pitched on three hours sleep; lived in the clubhouse; played for a team that collapsed mid-season; fought through more arm pain than any kid should. I had to keep going. I took a deep breath and gathered up my strength for a second comeback. My story had a special ending...I just knew it. A Story of Identity Years later, I was finally forced to hang up my cleats. The next morning, I looked in the mirror and didn't recognize the man peering back. If no longer a ballplayer...who was I? What would I do? How would I get out of bed each morning without baseball as my compass? When we choose a sport, we don't realize that one day it may both define and consume us. A Story of The Deeper Side In this philosophical memoir by former professional baseball player Dan Blewett, you'll learn what it's like to take the field terrified that this game may very well be your last. You'll learn how the mental grind of 140-game seasons, ruthless managers and heart-breaking injuries all take their toll. But you'll also learn that there's a place at the top for those who were overlooked, counted out and given up on. Strength of will, belief in self, resolve and grit can carry a person through more than he or she realizes. The Baseball Gods never made it easy...that's for sure.

Dear Universe: Poems on Love, Longing, and Finding Your Place in the Cosmos
Dear Universe ... can you hear me? If Pierra Calasanz-Labrador's debut poetry collection The Heartbreak Diaries was equivalent to an "ugly cry," this second volume is an introspective journey, a quiet voice longing to be heard. Like stumbling upon an introvert's secret diary, these fifty poems chronicle fervent wishes, hidden fears, and everyday acts of bravery that may sound uncannily familiar. Whether you are searching for a soul mate, battling self-doubt, clearing out skeletons in your heart, or trying to chart your own course in an increasingly judgmental world, Dear Universe is an astute, empowering reminder that you are not alone."

Decrim: How We Decriminalized Drugs in British Columbia
A timely, insider account of an important and controversial step in British Columbia’s strategic effort to respond to the overdose crisis. Canada is in the middle of an opioid crisis. Since the province of British Columbia declared a public health emergency in 2016, more than 9,400 people have died of drug poisoning in BC―an average of six people a day―with nearly 1,500 apparent opioid-related deaths in the first eight months of 2022. In Decrim, Kennedy Stewart, mayor of Vancouver from 2018 to 2022, recounts historic progress in addressing this crisis. January 31, 2023, is the beginning of a three-year trial period for decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of hard drugs in British Columbia, a ground-breaking change in Canada’s approach to drug use. Kennedy Stewart has written Decrim to tell the story of how this remarkable policy change came about and the enormous challenges faced by those who fought for it―including its contribution to him losing his bid for mayoral re-election. In Decrim, Stewart lays out how ending the “war on drugs” and recognizing the overdose crisis as a public health issue will help reduce stigma related to substance use, increase access to health services, and decrease harms related to criminalization in British Columbia.

Defiant: Growing Up in the Jim Crow South
As the fight for equal rights continues, Defiant takes a critical look at the strides and struggles of the past in this revelatory and moving memoir about a young Black man growing up in the South during the heart of the Civil Rights Movement. For fans of It's Trevor Noah: Born a Crime, Stamped, and Brown Girl Dreaming. 'With his compelling memoir, Hudson will inspire young readers to emulate his ideals and accomplishments." -Booklist, Starred Review Born in 1946 in Mansfield, Louisiana, Wade Hudson came of age against the backdrop of the Civil Rights Movement. From their home on Mary Street, his close-knit family watched as the country grappled with desegregation, as the Klan targeted the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, and as systemic racism struck across the nation and in their hometown. Amidst it all, Wade was growing up. Getting into scuffles, playing baseball, immersing himself in his church community, and starting to write. Most important, Wade learned how to find his voice and use it. From his family, his community, and his college classmates, Wade learned the importance of fighting for change by confronting the laws and customs that marginalized and demeaned people. This powerful memoir reveals the struggles, joys, love, and ongoing resilience that it took to grow up Black in segregated America, and the lessons that carry over to our fight for a better future.

Delete Me: D.S.M. 7 Steps to Social Media Abstinence
Renowned by law enforcement and clinical mental health experts nationwide, Delete Me: D.S.M. 7 Steps to Social Media Abstinence, was formerly only circulated through DRUGFR33.ORG. Swipe left. It's time to delete the social media disease. There are currently no specialized treatments for social media addiction and anxiety type conditions attributed to social media usage. Whereas most 'remedies' for social media abuse call for 'vacations', 'breaks', and 'parental surveillance' from the applications, Delete Me refutes these methods as ineffective. Fortune 500 IT consultant & engineer turned clinical mental health researcher & crisis intervention counselor, J.A. Thomas insists that we’re far better off abstaining from the applications altogether. J.A. Thomas, MSW, who is one of a growing army of industry experts going offline, offers powerful and personal reasons for all of us to abandon these treacherous online platforms. J.A. Thomas left a lucrative career in Big Tech in pursuit of investigating online crime with law enforcement. Now a critical crisis intervention counselor, Thomas hopes to foster transparent public health information surrounding the dangers of social media usage and its links to severe mental health conditions and the illicit online sex & drug trades. The methodologies introduced in D.S.M. 7 insist in total abstinence from all social media applications as key to driving us towards richer and more meaningful ways of living by connecting us back to the world beyond the tiny blue screen. 'Educational, engaging and life saving! J.A.Thomas sounds the alarm on the coercive and destructive force that is big social.
