LoveReading View on Henry Pond the Poet

Interest Age 5-8

Dick King-Smith had a wonderful gift for creating seemingly simple children’s stories filled with humour and drama. Henry Pond is renowned by the other toads for his poetry, but it’s not enough to win the heart of the gorgeous Victoria Garden-Pool. She prefers toads of action, like the muscly Larry Lake. How will Henry cope when he’s forced into toad to toad combat? The story, and Henry’s poetry, will have children giggling, while the descriptions of toad life are full of real natural history.  Illustrations by Victor Ambrus put the finishing touches to a little gem.

High quality cream paper and a special easy to read font ensure a smooth read for all.

Henry Pond the Poet Synopsis

Henry Pond is a toad who is also a poet. His gift is an uncommon one, his poems sweep the prize table at the Eistoadfod and he has many adoring fans. Sadly, that's not enough to win the heart of Victoria Garden-Pool, whose affections lie with Larry Lake. And so Henry Pond must be more than a poet - he must become a toad of action too. Will his derring-do and rhyming prowess be enough to persuade Victoria to be his love? A wonderful froggy adventure from award-winning Dick King-Smith combines with stunning artwork from Victor Ambrus to make for an utterly charming Little Gem.

High quality cream paper and a special easy to read font ensure a smooth read for all.

Dick wrote over seventy stories, many of which have animal characters for the simple reason that, "I like them, I've always kept a lot of pets, and because it's fun putting words in their mouths."
