Lenny Lemon has only the best intentions when he takes Ratty, a large, lively and surprisingly strong rat into school. Year Five are doing Olden Days School and he’s determined that for once his class, 5B, will beat practically perfect 5A. Ratty could be the winning ticket, after all, what’s more olden days than a wild rat?

Unfortunately this is one of those occasions when Lenny’s attempt to do the right thing, turns out to be the wrong thing. Ratty escapes and pandemonium breaks out as Lenny, his friend Sam and new girl Jess try to catch him.

Narrated with the clear-eyed forthrightness of a ten-year-old, this is very funny indeed. The target audience will love it, but there are treats for adults too including a perfectly timed Thesaurus joke half way through. One to recommend to fans of Pamela Butchart and Danny Wallace.
