"This fab festive anthology sees classic Dahl characters given a sparkling seasonal makeover through 12 brand-new stories by notable children’s writers."
November 2024 Book of the Month
As gratifying as gobbling down a whole globe of Terry’s Chocolate Orange in one go (and every bit as chunky!), Charlie and the Christmas Factory presents a bedazzlement of Dahl-inspired tales for the festive season, all tied together perfectly by Rikin Parekh’s lively illustrations.
The concept is top-notch — twelve writers creating a brand-new story based on their favourite Dahl character. So here we have, for example, Sibéal Pounder, author of the Witch Wars Adventure series, imagining how Charlie might celebrate Christmas in the Chocolate Factory, while TV star Adam Hills, now also a writer for children, explores what the Gigantic Australian Crocodile wants for Christmas in a madcap adventure that also involves Old Grandma Possum, Wimble the Wombat and Cackledackle the Kookaburra.
Meanwhile, Elle McNicoll’s heart-warming contribution sees Matilda move from hoping she’s not on Santa’s naughty list to enjoying a rather magical Christmas miracle.
With twelve stories, Charlie and the Christmas Factory is a great book to gift as part of a pre-Christmas countdown — why wait until the big day to unleash the magic of Christmas, and the magic of Roald Dahl, for that matter?
This is a beautiful collection of sequels to Roald Dahl books for example The Enormous Crocodile, The BFG and Matilda. I give this book 10 out of 5!

Authors like Greg James and Chris Smith, who wrote the Kid Normal series (which is one of my favourite series) and many other famous children's fiction authors write all of the stories in this book. You get to enjoy lots of different styles of writing as every story has a different author. Each story has the same characters as the original Roald Dahl books, but a surprisingly different story line; all are set at Christmas.
One of my favourite stories in the book is 'George's Marvellous Christmas' because of its marvellous (!) ending!... Read Full Review
Fun Christmas-themed stories with some of my favourite characters!
This is a book of short, Christmas-themed tales, featuring some of Roald Dahl's most famous characters, including Charlie Bucket, Matilda and The Twits.
My favourite story was 'Matilda and the Naughty List', where Matilda writes a letter to Father Christmas trying to persuade him to put her on the 'Nice List' - it's more difficult than she expected! I thought the story was very funny, and I liked the way it lead on from the original Matilda story.
I also enjoyed, 'George's Marvellous Christmas'. George has grown up, and his granddaughter has come to stay with him for the Christmas holidays. She continues the family tradition of creating potions and hopes to follow in her grandad's footsteps.... Read Full Review
My younger siblings really enjoyed listening to these stories with the Christmas twists on familiar stories.
I thought this was a really good book. I loved how it put a Christmas twist on Ronald Dahl books. My favourite short story in this book was the Matilda chapter I found it really funny when Matilda got punished and she said “If you’re punishing me for punishing someone else is someone going to punish you for punishing me"....
