Perfect for fans of Percy Jackson and set in a perilous otherworld populated by figures and monsters from Greek mythology, this exciting middle-grade adventure utilises sibling dynamics to up the stakes in a quest story that delivers any number of surprises.

Sister and brother Netta and Remy Becker have already had encounters with some of the heroes and villains of ancient Greece and now they are back amongst them on a dangerous mission to locate a Titan lost in a world where time is irrelevant and memories at risk. It’s a challenge that requires brains as well as courage and Netta steps up to set and solve those tests so beloved of the ancients, the riddle, while each of them must overcome family rivalries and irritations if they are to succeed, and indeed survive.

As demonstrated in the previous adventure, Jennifer Claessen makes great use of the frame of myths while weaving new stories around well-known characters and this is a constantly surprising adventure, tense but with humour, its cast of allies including the three-headed dog Cerberus and a sphinx.

There are some particularly filmic scenes, which up the excitement and ooh-factor considerable. This will be better if you’ve read the preceding book, but the relevant info is neatly précised at the beginning.

There are some great new myth-inspired stories at the moment, look out for Minotaur Boy by Shane Hegarty which also puts a new spin on a favourite tale
