In Little Acorn, Adam Stower has created an enormously appealing and identifiable little character whose experiences in the course of this story will make young children laugh but also understand that trying new things and stepping out of your comfort zone is nothing to fear.
We first meet Little Acorn high up in the branches of an oak tree and happy. But then he falls all the way down to the forest floor and though Dormouse, Bird and Squirrel all invite him to have fun with them, he just wants to get back to the treetop.
His new friends try to help but it’s only after some trials and a really fun party that he wakes up back home. At that point – in one of the loveliest and most cheering of picture book endings – he chooses to jump out, and this time holding the hand of an even littler acorn.
