A simple story told largely through its illustrations with a spare text adding a commentary. From the first smile of a baby onwards through loads of different situations and different relationships in life the story celebrates the all the wonderful qualities of a smile and the very big difference that smiling can make. Young children will love following the smile and recognising its importance.
When a baby smiles at his sister, the joy she feels is so powerful that it sets in motion a chain of kindness that spreads around the world . . . and back.
Born in former East Berlin, Marie spent her childhood painting, acting, writing and wanting to save the world. Or be an actress, a painter or a filmmaker. But with degrees in Multimedia Technology and Marketing she got various jobs in TV, advertising, branding, events and graphic & web design, but nothing ever felt quite right. That was until Marie realised that making picture books allows her to combine all her passions and skills in the most fulfilling way. Following some very intense years of self-directed author/illustrator training and self-discovery, Marie is finally back where she started, but better. Because with picture books she gets to be a writer and a director, an actress and a painter all in one. And this time she knows it’s exactly what she should be doing.
