LoveReading4Kids Says
Ava’s dads are doctors and she loves helping out, so when one of the Dewdrop Meadow unicorns arrives at the surgery complaining of tummy ache, Ava takes her straight into the surgery. But neither Daddy nor her papa can find anything wrong. Ava is determined to work out what’s making Glitterbug poorly. The answer will strike a chord with lots of readers: it was trying to fit in that was upsetting the little unicorn, and once she accepts herself for who she is, all is well. Ava is such a cheery, positive little character and young readers will love the unusual patients filling her daddies’ waiting room. New from the creators of The Pirate Mums, this delivers an important message deftly and with lots of fun and humour.

The Marvellous Doctors for Magical Creatures Synopsis
No magical creature has a problem too big for Ava and her Dads to solve! Unicorns with tummy trouble. Dragons with broken wings. Sneezy centaurs and mermaids with measles. Everyone in town knows just who to see when they are feeling poorly: Ava and her dads, the Marvellous Doctors for Magical Creatures. Well, Ava isn't a doctor, not yet, but she's learning the ropes and she's brilliant at solving medical mysteries.
Glitterbug the unicorn is not like all the other unicorns. They love dancing and planning parties, but she would much rather be frolicking in the mud. Glitterbug comes to the Marvellous Doctors with a terrible tummy ache, but after examining her, they are mystified as to what's causing it. Can Ava help her dads find the answer?
In this magical story about being true to yourself, Ava discovers there's more than one way to be a unicorn!
A wonderful new book from picture book dream team, Jodie Lancet-Grant and Lydia Corry, creators of the joyously inclusive The Pirate Mums.
• A gorgeously-illustrated LGBTQ+ story with diversity, individuality, and friendship at its core.
• With a heart-warming message of inclusion, kindness, and being true to yourself.

Jodie Lancet-Grant Press Reviews
“This book is bursting with creativity, warmth and imagination, with a powerful message about celebrating each other’s and our own unique identities. I’d recommend any magical creatures looking for assistance to book an appointment with Ava and her dads right away!” Sarah Hagger-Holt
“It’s a gorgeously illustrated, delightfully funny story with thoughtful incidental representation and a lovely message of friendship and being yourself, not to mention EMO UNICORNS - what more could you want?!” Harry Woodgate
“This is a wonderfully enchanting story with a beautiful message of being yourself at its heart. I loved the brilliantly determined Ava and that the fact she has two dads isn’t the focus of the book but merely the backdrop. The magical, marvellously detailed illustrations will give readers lots to spot and engage with, over and over again!” Catherine Coe - All Stories founder
“An uplifting, joyous story full of colour, humour and heart’ Ian Eagleton
“Stories about unicorns are always welcome in our house and so are books about two dads… and this story has both. But I love that this story is focused on identity and anxiety, rather than the fact that the little doctor has two dads. We need more fantastical books like these, telling wonderfully new stories. It is the dad’s dedication to helping magical creatures that allows their wonderful daughter, Ava, to gain a new unicorn friend and in the process, help her poorly tummy. This is a story for every family and every bookshelf, with charming illustrations and an important message.” Gareth Peter
“Loved this joyous and inclusive celebration of quiet heroes and the magic of being yourself” Rashmi Sirdeshpande
“The Marvellous Doctors for Magical Creatures is another beautiful book from Jodie Lancet-Grant. She gently teaches our children the joy of being different, while simultaneously making the diversity or her characters incidental to their central purpose. If you want your child to grow up wide-eyed and ready to embrace the richness of the world, then this is the book for you.” Paul Brand
Praise for The Pirate Mums;
'This brilliantly fun story is a lovely book to read aloud, with a heart-warming message.' - Booktrust
'A rainbow-hued riot of sea shanties and pirate banter.' - The Guardian
