Astrocita Synopsis

This bilingual book of science is for all the children of the world, especially those with curious, searching, inquisitive minds who ask questions. It is dedicated to them in the hopes of sowing in their minds an interest in science and a respect for knowledge. All children, if provided an environment conducive to learning, will develop a passion for reading and will have a creative spirit, soaring imagination and an interest for the vast richness of knowledge.

Astrocita, the main character, protagonist, and narrator, is a cell who was born from the network of small, star-shaped support cells in the brain, called astrocytes. She tells stories about the most basic bodily functions.

The book also includes practical and simple activities, and a glossary to help children increase their vocabulary. The stories were reviewed and enriched by children who read the text and did the activities. The author, a retired Mexican medical doctor, is a lover of science and the written word.

Este libro bilingüe de ciencia es para todos los niños del mundo, especialmente para aquellos con mentes curiosas, investigadoras e inquisitivas, y que hacen preguntas. Está dedicado a ellos con el deseo de plantar en sus mentes la semilla de interés por la ciencia y de respeto por el conocimiento. Todos los niños, si se les crea el ambiente adecuado para el aprendizaje, desarrollarán pasión por la lectura, y tendrán un espíritu creativo, una imaginación con grandes alas e interés por la infinita riqueza del conocimiento.

"Astrocita", el personaje central, protagonista y narradora, es una célula que nació de la red de las pequeñas células cerebrales de sostén, con forma de estrella, llamadas astrocitos. Ella relata historias de las funciones corporales más básicas.

El libro también incluye actividades prácticas, muy sencillas, y un glosario para ayudar a los niños a ampliar su vocabulario. Las historias fueron revisadas y enriquecidas por niños que leyeron el texto y realizaron las actividades. La autora, médica mexicana retirada es amante de las letras y de la ciencia.
