LoveReading4Kids Says
The second installment in the brilliantly funny and exciting Ministry of Mischief series, The Takeover takes place in the Humanrealm where the imps have become completely trapped, and it’s up to Joey to get them back to their home world!
What I love about Alex Foulkes’ stories is that they are exhilarating and hilarious but they have a lot of heart, and that is why she’s one of the most popular middle grade authors at the school library that I manage. Foulkes is a master at creating memorable characters that find a way into your heart, they all have their unique eccentricities and foibles and I think that’s the key, they are realistic even though they have been plunged into unimaginable situations.
In The Takeover, Joey and his friends have been away from Impworld for two weeks and a lot has changed. Essentially, the imps are now spreading good luck instead of misfortune. This is written brilliantly by Foulkes, who injects her amazing charm, wit and magic into each scene.
The problem surrounding Impworld is that the Sprite Queen and her sprite minions have infiltrated the land and overthrown the imp king. So it’s up to Joey and Harry and their new imp friends to get the king back on the throne. Once again, Foulkes writes these scenes with Harry and his friends beautifully, both the impworld and the Humanrealm are brimming with life.
It’s very easy to get lost in these worlds, and I mean it in a good way. This book contains just as much fun as the original and even more, packed with jokes and the right amount of gross stuff, I absolutely loved it. It’s a testament to a great author when word of mouth spreads around a school to read a particular author, and Alex Foulkes has more than enough magic in her writing to make this happen. I highly recommend this fantastic series.
