February 2026 Debut of the Month

What can you say about a book in which the hero is a potato, who lives in a town famous for its donut hole factory and clown burial ground, motto, ‘Chuderton: it’s filthy but it’s friendly!’

Yes, as you will no doubt guess, this is unashamedly, wonderfully off the wall, the five self-contained stories filled with aliens, pets on the rampage, Spudbert’s unusual friends, his no-nonsense gran and her incredible state of the art toilet amongst other things.

It’s all brilliantly illustrated by Neil Coslett too, black and white cartoon style drawings on every page; after all, who else could capture the mega-robot flushing machine, the Flushertron, in all its glory, or indeed Spudbert’s Gran when she takes it on?

You won’t find zanier stories outside the Captain Underpants universe; adults should probably avoid it, but the target audience will devour it!
